As a born again, unapologetic, politically incorrect public servant, Dorothy Burton is a professional speaker, bible teacher and writer whose passion is to equip, encourage and inspire people – particularly servant leaders, to move beyond pettiness, politics and past failures to purpose.
A respected leader who loves people, Dorothy is the first African-American to be elected to the Duncanville, Texas City Council and has been twice elected Mayor Pro Tem by her peers. She is currently serving her fourth term on the Council. Dorothy is Chairman of the Board for the Dallas Central Appraisal District, having been unanimously appointed to the Board by the Dallas County Commissioners Court to represent Dallas County. She serves on the National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government Board of Directors and is the Assistant Regional Director for Region 11 of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (a region comprised of the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico).
Councilwoman Burton earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Urban Affairs from the University of Texas at Arlington, and was selected as the 2006 UTA Outstanding African-American Alumna. She is a graduate of Leadership Texas and attends Dallas Theological Seminary where she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Education. Her first book, Why We Fall (Dailey Swan Publishing, Inc.) will be released in spring 2011.
Dorothy and her husband Michael have been married for 25 years and have one daughter. They attend Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas.
