Personally, I believe the majority culture will increasingly become hopelessly divided if God's church doesn't step up to the plate. We are seeing the same battles fought on the tipping scale of culture with one side up one day, then down the next. The other side up one day, then down the next. As we call it in politics, the "whip hand." Y'all ever heard of the whip hand? Politicos know what I'm talking about.

I was  part of a regular volunteer group with a local church a few years ago that served at The Bridge – a facility in downtown Dallas providing a myriad of services to the homeless.

I would volunteer to serve on the food line or refill water cups and clear tables in the dining hall because I enjoyed interacting with the people. 

I learned that homeless shelters are filled with some gifted and amazingly talented people, with fascinating stories. There was the lawyer who because of a series of poor choices lost a lucrative law practice and a beautiful family.

When Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the “Father of Black History,” initiated Negro History Week in 1926, it was in response to the dearth of educational information on the contributions of Blacks in American culture. 

By 1976 the week had been expanded to an entire month, institutionalized, and memorialized as Black History Month – a month set aside exclusively to recognize the threads of accomplishments and contributions of African-Americans that have been woven into the historic fabric of our nation.

The promises of God not political platforms was his compass. He never held a political office but changed the political landscape.
